Carry on Moaning!

During February, we were looking at Psalm 55 together. This psalm includes the famous verses where David imagines what he would do if he had 'the wings of a dove'- if only he could fly away and take rest from all the turmoil that surrounds him, and find a bit of peace!

David is not afraid to complain and moan to God and be honest about how he feels about what is going on. As the psalm continues, so David bares his soul, not holding back!

Yet in the middle of all this, there is a truth that David is sure of...

Evening and morning and at noon

I utter my complaint and moan,

and he hears my voice.

Psalm 55:17 ESV

He understands that God hears his prayers and cries. He is sure of God's strength to help him. He is willing to trust God in his awful situation. He knows God is with him, and in all this, his soul somehow finds some peace.

Whether in the middle of the night, or during the busiest of days, it is a relief to know that God is listening out and caring for His children. When our prayers are raw with emotion, God can cope. Our moans and complaints do not need to be dressed-up with 'appropriate language'! 'The Message' version of this psalm reminds us that God will help us when we 'pile our troubles' onto his shoulders.

David knew that God saw his emotions and state of mind, as well as hearing his words, and discovered a sense of peace in his turmoil. That sense of peace when faced with troubles is something which we at 'YouBelong' hope and pray you will feel too.
